Kate and a trip to the beach to shoot some swimwear

Writer: Kristian EustaceKristian Eustace

Last summer while we hired a car and trialed some Italian camping we were lucky enough to have half a day on the beach to take some pics. We also made it to Liguria the evening before and managed to capture the last of the sun as it disappeared behind a neighbouring hill.

We tried to get down early enough to enjoy some time on the beach before shooting some swimwear, but it was a work trip so we got the camera out & started shooting. We enjoyed the scenery and some interesting points while we were setting up camp. The discovery of a scorpion under our tent the morning after maybe led to this being the only time we got it out last year.

Kate shot on a Canon A-1 using portra 800. This was shot using the 35mm FE 2.8 lens that came with the camera. Setting were F16 on SS 1/250. Sadly the last in the roll before having to change it so I switched to digital after this shot which you can see at the bottom.

With the little planning we put into this trip I feel we ended up with some beautiful shots. We aimed to improve our portfolio of swimwear however struggled to find any good collaborators and short of investing heavily in swimwear we thought we would use the time to get creative.

So we pulled out our underwater capability which comes in the form of an old underwater analogue film camera we went to work.

This was shot on Tungsten 800 film by Cinestill. (one of my favourites)

With all the challenges that underwater shooting brings, Kate also has an aversion to the water itself and asking her to be submerged was quite a lot to request. She, however, did everything in her power to get the shots we were looking for and I think we captured some incredible moments in between the struggles.

For those who want a look at some of the fails of this particular expedition I've created an album for you to have a laugh...
